Carnivore

When I visited Nairobi, my Kenyan friends advised “Don’t miss dinner at Carnivore, it is the most famous restaurant in town”. On Saturday night, as a precisely choreographed maitre d’ guided me to my table through an endless succession of bright rooms, I surveyed the local patrons: an affluent crowd dressed for the Oscars. There was no shortage of stilettos, hairdos, glittery dresses, and double-breasted suits. I sat at my table, wrapped by a constant buzz interjected by periodical cackles.
As the names suggests, Carnivore is a steak house. Its claim to fame is that it grills almost everything that walks: from the predictable beef and pork, to the exotic crocodile and giraffe. Taking to heart the all-you-can-eat style, I commended myself to try every single cut until I was in a digestive comma. The sizzling slices incessantly flowed from the grill, perfectly tanned on the outside and oozing with juice on the inside. This place is a carnivore’s paradise. I attempted to tell the difference between the cartilage texture of the crocodile and the fibrous feel of the giraffe. In the end, I humbly admit, all of these exotic meats tasted like chicken.
